An explorative project a year in the making, the Kaleidoscope Suite is an extended, multi-movement work that was co-written by directors Alex Shanafelt and Kent Hickey, performed in collaboration with Beech Grove artist Kelsey Behl. Inspired by the symmetrical and colorful patterns seen in a kaleidoscope, the piece features a variety of musical characters and styles that are visually interpreted by Behl as she paints live in response. A new color palette and painting technique is used for each movement, building the painted kaleidoscope pigment by pigment until the final work is revealed at the end of the suite.
